Alia Bhatt turns singer for A R Rahman in Highway

Alia Bhatt turns singer for A R Rahman in Highway

It turns out that actor Alia Bhatt is not only a talented performer but a very good singer as well.

At this early stage of her career, Alia is all set to prove her singing talents as she has been honed by none other than Oscar winning music composer A.R. Rahman for the upcoming Imtiaz Ali film Highway.

The actor has beautifully sung a song called 'Sooha Saha' composed by Rahman himself. The song is s slow and soft one and has a lullaby-like quality to it

Alia has tweeted a video of the making of the song in the recording studio, which shows her being trained by A.R. Rahman, while director Imtiaz Ali looks on in anticipation. She is also seen confessing that she feels nervous singing for this long for the first time in her life.

Music maestro A.R. Rahman was quoted saying, "We have this lullaby, Sooha Saha in Highway. Imtiaz (director of the film) said Alia has a great voice and I didn't trust him. Then she learned the song and sang to me and I was pretty impressed with her natural ability too. We guided her a little bit to perfect the singing. She did it twice and then we got it almost right and now it sounds great."

Alia spoke about her first singing experience and said, "It was unreal. I am a bathroom singer but to have the opportunity to sing a song composed by Rahman sir was unbelievable...This film is so close to my heart not just for acting but for singing too now!"

Alia Bhatt-Randeep Hooda starrer Highway is slated to release worldwide on February 21, 2014.

The wait is over! Rahman sings the soft romantic number Maahi Ve for Highway

A.R. Rahman, who is behind the soundtrack of Imtiaz Ali's "Highway", has also sung a song titled "Maahi ve" for it. The filmmaker says he is surprised by how the Oscar winning composer manages to get a pulse of a movie's soul so well.

"'Maahi ve' is coming more from Rahman sir than from Irshad or me. This is one of the songs that Rahman sir makes and one wonders how does he get the soul of the the story so beautifully," Ali said in a statement.

Written by Irshad Kamil, the soft romantic number "Maahi ve" is picturised on Veera, played by Alia Bhatt, and Mahabir, essayed by Randeep Hooda - two strangers who come close to each other because of the circumstances.

"'Maahi ve' was not a part of the original brief, but I cannot imagine the film or the album of 'Highway' without it," added Ali.

"Maahi ve" is the second song to be launched from the "Highway" album after "Patakha guddi", which signifies the free spirit of a girl.

"Highway", produced by Window Seat Films and presented by Sajid Nadiadwala, will be          released worldwide by UTV Motion Pictures Feb 21.
